Businesses – large and medium sized quarries and contractors in particular – constantly need to improve productivity of their operations.
This means that it is of the greatest importance to choose machines that do exactly the job they are supposed to – no more, no less. The new Sandvik DI550 is the machine that meets these criteria. It is a down-the-hole drilling rig that is something else. With its 328 kW diesel engine and 24.4 m3 compressed air flow at 24 bar pressure it is theperfect match for the 5” DTH hammer.
The careful match of power and hammer size make the rig uniquely productive, keeping fuel consumption and operating costs as low as possible. cost effective machine performance is further enhanced by other advanced features such as load sensing compressor pressure control, active diesel RPM control, optimized diesel RPM level during drilling and ambient oil cooler fan control.
On top of high performance, simple and comfortable machine operation was in development focus. Featuring a modern, accurate control system with simple icon displays, the new DI550 thus enables seamless co-operation of man and machine. Operator will handle drilling and the automation takes care of all machine controls. The rig’s modern, over-pressurized and ROPS and FOPS certified cab with first-rate ergonomy, efficient filtration for incoming and recirculating air, and excellent visibility – not to mention the modern led lighting – further add to the operator comfort. The large windshield comes with a strong safety grill that is easy to open for cleaning. The new, efficient dust collector with non-stop cleaning decreases the amount of dust emissions to the environment. It also improves filter lifetime and, therefore, reduces the need for maintenance. Other features that translate into easy maintenance and thus low downtime are, for example, the engine compartment’s open layout, easy cooler cleaning, modular compressor control system and simplified, can-bus based electric system. All daily maintenance points are located on the ground level to simplify the process and improve safety of service personnel. A fast fuel filling option and large fuel tank further cut costly downtime.
The new DTH line has largely benefited from Sandvik’s solid experience in top hammer drilling solutions. The two product lines share many solutions, components and test procedures, for example. The achieved similarity between the two creates a commonness offering clear advantages for service and maintenance. The DI550 is suited to work at its maximum performance with Sandvik RH550 hammers from 3” to 5”. The machine is at its best in production drilling, quarry/mine development, pre-splitting and de-watering.
